Auraceli Maldonado, a 24-year-old Irvington resident and Jean Omar Rockson, a 33-year-old Orange resident, were charged with three counts of robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, aggravated assault and multiple weapons offenses, Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll said.

On Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 8:54 p.m., police responded to the motel on Route 36 and found Selwyn Torres, 36, suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg, said Carroll alongside Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, Morris County Sheriff James Gannon, and Roxbury Police Chief Dean Adone.

Torres eventually needed his left leg amputated, according to a fundraiser set up to support him.

An investigation determined Torres met with Rockson and Maldonado, who was armed with an AR-style rifle during the interaction, authorities said. Rockson and Maldonado robbed Torres and shot him the leg during a struggle before fleeing the scene, authorities said.

Maldonado was arrested in Florida last November while Rockson was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 15, outside his residence, authorities said. The two will be arraigned next week, authorities said.
